Lyrical Analysis of "Garbage: Cherry Lips"

A friend of mine recently linked this...

here's what I think the lyrics mean...

Verse 1:
She gave you everything she had
But she was young and dumb
She'd just turned 21
She didn't care to hang around
So when the shit came down why she was nowhere to be found
This life can turn a good girl bad
She was the sweetest thing that you had ever seen

This is telling the subject of the song about someone important in their life. Personally I see this as either being a mother, a lover or a very close friend. Essentially some "shit came down" and this person "didn't care to hang around", sparking some inner turmoil.

"She gave you everything she had" could be the mothers looks through genetics, or possibly even as simple as the lovers clothing etc. The latter would imply that the split would have been even more sudden.
"She was the sweetest thing that you had ever seen" again shows the subjects love/infatuation/worship of them, and potential immitation.

Chorus:
You're so such a delicate boy
In the hysterical realm
Of an emotional landslide
In physical terms

"delicate boy" we now know the subject is male, and that they're potentially vulnerable, a feminine trait.
"hysterical realm" could be a referece to the general insanity of the world, additionally being part of the "hysterical" gender - women.
"emotional landslide" - the subjects current emotional state.
"physical terms" - personifying this emotional state physically, ie through cross-dressing.

Verse 2:
With your cherry lips and golden curls
You could make grown men gasp when you go walking past
And in your hot pants and high heels
They could not believe that such a body was for real
It seemed like rainbows would appear
Whenever you came near the clouds would disappear
Because you looked just like a girl
Your baby blues would flash and suddenly a spell was cast

Generally, all of the above is highlighting an attractive female. However, 2 points of note...
"You could make grown men gasp" "They could not believe that such a body was for real" aren't neccessarily sexual, and could be generally shock at what they're seeing. Most likely sexual in the context, though it could be a double-meaning.
"Because you looked just like a girl" implies that they're not a girl.. So a cross-dresser?

Verse 3:
You hold a candle in your heart
You shine the light on hidden parts
You make the whole world wanna dance
You bought yourself a second chance

"You hold a candle in your heart" could be a hidden wish/dream
"You shine the light on hidden parts" could be as vulgar as the subjects genitalia, more likely secret dreams still
"You make the whole world wanna dance" the bands support and encouragement,
"You bought yourself a second chance" Again could imply the subject having bought clothing, or maybe even having bought a sex-change, becoming a new person.

Bridge 1:
(Go baby go go)
We're right behind you
(Go baby go go)
Yeah, we're looking at you
(Go baby go go)
Oh ,we're right behind you
(Go baby go go)
Yeah, we're right behind you
(Go baby go go)
Oh, we're right behind you
(Go baby go go)
Yeah, we're looking at you
(Go baby go go)
Oh, we're right behind you
(Go baby go go)
Yeah, we're looking at you

All of the above has a lot of encouragement and focus on the subjects behaviour. Could also be pointing out how the world is looking at their "abnormality".

Bridge 2:
You hold a candle in your heart
(Go baby go go)
You shine the light on hidden parts
(Go baby go go)
You make the whole world wanna dance
(Go baby go go)
You bought yourself a second chance
(Go baby go baby go)
Delicate boy
(Go baby go baby go)
In the hysterical realm
(Go baby go baby go)
Of an emotional landslide
(Go baby go baby go)
In physical terms
(Go baby go go)
Go

More of the same.

Outro:
Yeah, we're looking at you
Go baby go go
Oh, we're right behind you

Conclusion?

This is a song about a feminine looking man that suffers some sort of heartbreak or loss by the hands of a partner/parent etc and as a becomes result attention seeking cross-dresser or has a sex-change.

Additional proof:

The video features "invisible bodies", leaving just the clothing there. This implies that our clothing dictates a lot about us, such as gender, further lending support to the cross-dressing aspect.
Additionally, the only time we actually see the band is when they're viewed in 1) a mirror, in turn implying that identity is an act of personal reflection.2) a camera, which could highlighting the facade...

That and the last scene shows the disembodied heeled boots (female) standing in front of a toilet and urinating with the seat up, the way a man normally would...
